A brand new, completely built from the ground up Space Mountain is coming to Tokyo Disneyland in 2027. We got a look at the beautiful new model on display at Disney’s D23 2026 convention over the weekend. The name for the attraction was also announced, Space Mountain Earthrise. I’m a huge fan of the name. It’s unique, it clearly distinguishes it from the original, and it evokes the wonder that Tomorrowland should make you feel. Now we’ll take a look at the model from the show floor and go over some of the details.

There’s so much to like about this design. The sleek curves look great and I love how a little bit of the original Space Mountain’s iconic spires peek out of the top. This is a completely new build so the designers were able to go all out with this one.

What looks to be a giant seashell is at the base of the mountain. The shell has a similar look to the Space Mountain Earthrise structure itself. Almost like the seashell was at Tokyo Disneyland all along, and the new Space Mountain was built around it. I can’t wait to find out the story behind this.

Another piece of art with the ride’s marquee, with the giant seashell in the background. Also of note are the tiles on the wall under Space Mountain. I’ve seen these in person during my April, 2026 trip to Tokyo Disneyland and they look fantastic.

A model of the Space Mountain Earthrise ride vehicle was also unveiled on the D23 show floor. Disney confirmed the ride will have an onboard audio soundtrack, which the original Space Mountain never had.

Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland is being completely transformed for the opening of Space Mountain Earthrise. Tomorrowland Plaza is the area in front of the new Space Mountain, and will feature structures and art pieces inspired by the elements that make up nature and celestial objects. This should look stunning at night.

This model on display was labeled as “Plaza Main Icon.”
The future of Tokyo Disneyland is bright with Space Mountain Earthrise and Wreck-It Ralph Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue opening in Spring, 2027. Beyond that Oriental Land Company has also teased a reimagined Adventureland.
